Third marathon for the team!
By Laura Stetler
A couple of weeks ago, a photographer caught this candid moment (shown below) after I crossed the finish line of the One City Marathon in Newport News, VA. This is me after running a marathon. Truthfully, I look a bazillion times better than during or even before 26.2. No filter nor trophy…rather, healthy and joyous simply because to do it was wonderful.
When I look at this image, I see a group photo of the accomplishment. (Yes...of course, I see me.) Also, I see:
my dear friend who got me to start running over a decade ago and has since retired
a friend who ran a half marathon with me 8 years ago overseas in Europe who is now valiantly fighting/mending her body from stage 3 colon cancer
a friend who organizes awareness walks and advocates for those with rare diseases
older sisters who modeled being active for decades despite elegant juggling acts of lives
two nutritionists who have helped me figure out fueling on the go
friends who have made helpful tools (hey, hey, Calmpak!)
gals with route recommendations that worked magnificently to help me train
two trainers who have helped me build strength and stay healthy in recent years and helped me to finish my third marathon in less than 12 months (when my original goal was a first, possibly only, full at age 40).
While I may be the one crossing the finish line; however, make no mistake...this is a team of gals. How fitting for women's history that to make your own, I’ve been reminded you stand in the strength of others!
