iPhones 7 through X can now read NFC tags without a 3rd party app

Great news! Older iPhones can now read NFC tags without a 3rd party app. Apple’s latest operating system update - iOS14 - includes a feature to add NFC Tag Reader to the control center for older iPhones. This feature is available for iPhone 6s and newer.

What does this mean for you? It means if you own an older iPhone, you can access your calmpak keyfob without a 3rd party app. This is GREAT news because you can free up more space on your phone and still access your calmpak keyfob! If you own a newer iPhone (XR and newer) you never needed an app to access your calmpak keyfob anyway - so simply feel good for your friends who can now join in the fun!

How to add NFC reader to iPhones 7 through X

  1. Go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls

  2. Scroll down until you see “NFC Tag Reader”

  3. Press the “+” sign to add it to your control center

  4. Swipe to access your control center and click on the NFC Tag Reader icon as you hold it next to your calmpak keyfob

After you do this, you can delete whatever NFC Tag Reader app you previously used to access your calmpak keyfob and simply use your phone’s NFC Tag Reader in your control center to read your calmpak keyfob.
